When it comes to Instagram, you need to think of it from a tactical perspective. You need to put yourself in the shoes of your ideal followers and learn what they do on the platform, where they hang out and the content they engage with. Today, I am going to be giving you just a few of the techniques I teach people so no matter what niche they are in, no matter what audience they have, you can start seeing physical results from your efforts. So, without further-ado, lets get straight into Number One!
#1 DM Those That Engage With Your Account & Say Thank You
Something so simple yet rarely used. It only takes a few seconds to send someone a DM saying thanks, however it can go a long long way. I have found that when I message people who have just followed my account, the likelihood of them sticking around is far greater than if I don’t. Now, why is this? Well, because people on social media like to feel noticed and by sending someone a personalised DM to say thanks, they will see that you noticed them when they followed. I encourage you to try this. If you already have a large following and you are getting a few hundred followers a day, then this will be harder to manage, however if you are getting up to 50 people following each day, engage with at least half of them. You never know, you could end up making a new friend aswell! or a potential collaboration.
#2 Ask Questions In Your Posts To Start Discussion
This is a brilliant way to interact with your Instagram audience and promote growth for your account. Plus, it does not take a lot of effort whatsoever. By adding a question to your post descriptions, you are giving your audience something to answer, something to think about. If you have an account dedicated to food, then why not ask your audience what their favourite homemade meal is. Or if you have an account dedicated to photography, why not ask your audience what their first ever DSLR camera was. This bit of discussion not only makes your audience feel like you are involving them, but it also favours the algorithm. More discussions in the comments section, shows Instagram that people like that particular post, therefore having a greater chance of that piece of content reaching the explore page, and the explore page is where serious growth happens!
#3 Respond To All Your Comments & DM’s
Being active on your account is a must when building that killer Instagram community. When someone leaves you a comment, say thank you or ask them how their day is going. Never leave you comments section with nothing but empty replies. Show your followers that you do notice they are there and that you hugely appreciate their support. This is only going to benefit you more when it comes to creating a more engaged audience. Because the more people that comment, the more Instagram is going to show your posts to your followers.
Along with responding to comments, respond to your DM’s. If someone has messaged you and took the time to send you a DM, take the time to send them one back. If you get a question about a topic you are knowledgeable in, give a great answer and really provide that person with some value. Take 30 minutes each day to just sit down and reply to all your DM’s. If you think about it, that person could have gone to any other user for help, but they chose you. Give them a reason to believe it was worth messaging you. Networking and connecting with others has and always will be one of the best ways to create an engaged Instagram audience and a strong loyal community.
#4 Collaborate With Other Users In Your Niche
For those of you that really want to put in the work and take things to another level, collaborating with others users is going to be your secret weapon. Open up the instagram app and do a search for people that are doing what you are or what you want to be doing. For example, let’s say you run a blog (like this one that you are on right now) and you have an Instagram account setup. You have some content published and you are starting to get followers and likes coming through, but you really want to get a more specific type of follower reaching your account. Collaborating with other similar users is going to be your way to do just that. They already have the type of followers you want to reach, so why not tap into them. This is a much more effective and quicker way to not only grow your audience, but grow and engaged audience. So, try and aim for one new collaboration per week. This is a good base to start with. Once you see your followers and your audience becomes more and more engaged, this will organically feed into other areas such as your blog, growing your email list, selling courses or e-books that you might offer etc.
