Instagram continues to evolve as an e-commerce platform and is launching ad testing in the Store section.
Brands will be able to promote their products on the home page of the “Store” tab, labeled “Ads.” Clicking on the ad will take you to a product information page where you can get more information and view additional images, if available. Or go to the store’s website and make a purchase.
Like regular Instagram posts, advertised items can be saved or forwarded to friends.
For now, single-image and carousel ad formats are available to a narrow range of advertisers in the U.S. Like other Instagram ad products, the ads in the “Shop” tab will work according to the auction model and will be shown only on mobile devices.
Recall that Instagram Shops was launched last year.
Instagram has not disclosed an exact timeline for the full rollout of the new advertising capabilities, but it intends to do so in the next few months.
