Instagram cares about the safety and comfort of users, so it severely punishes spammers and scammers. But you can get your account blocked not because of obvious violations, but because of banal ignorance of Instagram limits, that is, by accident.
In this article, we have painted the actual Instagram limits for 2022, so that you do not make mistakes when promoting your account.
New limits in Instagram for the number of actions per hour, day, month
Figures are tentative, because Instagram can at any time change the limits, come up with new rules or cancel the old ones. One thing is certain – the social network reacts faster every year to any violations, and most likely the limits will only be reduced, so the best solution is to stick to the middle of the range (but you decide for yourself).
Important: Limits are different for new, young (up to 6 months) and old accounts.
Number of subscriptions
Limits for new account (registered less than a week ago):
Up to 2,000 subscriptions per month;
Up to 20-40 subscriptions per hour, but no more than 100 subscriptions per day.
For a young account (up to 6 months):
Up to 3,000 to 4,000 subscriptions per month;
Up to 30-60 subscriptions per hour, but no more than 500 subscriptions per day.
For an older account (more than 6 months):
Up to 5,000 to 6,000 subscriptions per month;
Up to 60 subscriptions per hour, but no more than 800 subscriptions per day.
Important: The range, for example, 3 000 – 4 000 subscriptions per month assumes a different monthly number, if you subscribe to the same number of accounts each month (for example, 3 500), it may raise suspicion among the algorithms of the social network.
Unsubscribe
Unsubscriptions are counted in the same way as subscriptions, and the system summarizes these actions. That is, if you have a new account (up to 7 days), you’re subscribed to 4,000 accounts per month, and unsubscribed from 1,000, the total will be 5,000 actions, and that’s already over the limit.
Likes
For the new account:
Up to 300 likes per day;
Up to 25 likes per hour.
For a young account:
Up to 600 likes per day;
up to 50 likes per hour;
For an old account:
Up to 900 likes per day;
Up to 50 per hour.
Comments
For new account:
Up to 150 comments per day;
up to 30 per hour.
For a young account:
Up to 200 comments per day;
up to 40 per hour.
For an older account:
Up to 250-300 comments per day;
Up to 50 per hour.
Sending messages in Direct
For new account:
Up to 20 emails per day.
For a young account:
Up to 40 messages per day.
For an old account:
Up to 50 messages per day.
Also, do not send the same message to different users – this is considered spam. The only exceptions are welcome messages and quick replies in Direct.
Important: spam in Direct infuriates users much more than comment spam, likes, and annoying subscriptions. Instagram is particularly meticulous about the quantity and quality of posts, so stick to the limits and work on the quality of your newsletters.
Delay between actions (timeouts)
Does not depend on when the account was created.
- pauses between likes: 25-35 seconds;
- between comments: from 7 minutes;
- between subscribing/unsubscribing: from 1 minute;
- between sending messages in Direct: 8-10 minutes.
- Scratching subscribers, likes, views, etc.
Scamming limits are no longer relevant in 2022, because if you don’t get banned for these actions, you will simply kill your account with a low-quality audience. Promote yourself with ads and useful content, drive traffic from other sources (social networks, personal site, YouTube channel), give out business cards with a QR code, do live events, shoot more posts.
Consequences for violating limits
You can get banned for:
- overdoing it with likes and comments;
- short pauses between actions (normal users don’t like 30 posts per minute);
- too many subscriptions and unsubscriptions;
- a large number of direct mailings;
- comment spamming – these are identical comments under different posts in order to draw attention to your page;
- An account can be blocked not only for violation of limits, cheating, mass activity and spam, but also for forbidden content, violation of other people’s copyrights, frequent editing of publications.
Types of blocking:
- temporary – freezing actions (all or specific), need to change password;
- Permanent – complete account deletion from social network;
- accidental – due to mistakes of Instagram itself;
- shadow ban – there are restrictions, but no warnings.
We advise to read the detailed article on what exactly and how Instagram bans, so as not to violate anything.
Important: now there is already a function that prompts users who should be banned. Such accounts will be added to your blacklist (that is, they will not be completely blocked by the system). Perhaps, there is a possibility that users will be blocked by Instagram itself, if they have been blacklisted too often.
What to do if your account was blocked?
You can try to appeal a blocking, if you have not committed explicitly illegal actions and are not a malicious spammer. Instagram has simplified the process of filing an appeal – this is good news for those who are tired of long, one-syllable tech support responses.
Conclusion
Try not to exceed the limits on Instagram and use the social network as an ordinary user, even if your goal is to promote business. These days, it’s increasingly difficult to attract customers through commenting, liking, subscribing, and sending messages, but it’s easy to get your account blocked. So if you’ve gone this route, think carefully about your strategy and observe your limits.
