The feature is similar to what Facebook already has – fundraising and donation tools for charitable or personal purposes. Facebook has had similar features since 2015. It also offers other payment processing tools for Marketplace and Messenger.
Instagram has been working with payments on the platform for the past few years, but so far only released test features allowing individual users to book spa and restaurant appointments. Work is also underway on a separate shopping application. Perhaps some payment features will still be added to Stories.
Often Facebook and Instagram are testing new features, but it doesn’t go beyond tests. Will it be so this time – time will tell.
