Discord is a messenger with elements of a social network, which was originally created for gamers, but later was used in business and the IT sphere. Its functionality allows not only to run streams, collaborate on missions and discuss gameplay. Discord provides access to text and voice chats, calls, video calls, and many other options. Refers to the number of modern means of communication, gaining popularity.

In this article we will consider what functionality has Discord and how to register in it.

What is Discord and why register there

Discord provides a full-fledged individual and group communication between registered users in the system.

Basic Discord features:

• correspondence, voice communication, file exchange, calls;
• creation of channels, servers and thematic chats;
• Screen sharing (the whole screen or a part of it);
• opening of video conferences;
• connection of bots with configuration for the tasks;
• integration with YouTube, Twitch and Spotify.

Discord allows to create servers – communities, where users get in by the link (public or received in a personal chat). Such servers can be represented as a large apartment, with separate rooms for voice, text, and video channels, with full or limited access for those present. The division into “rooms” is useful when you want to differentiate the communication on the topics and distribute the roles.

The owner can give the server a unique name, put the cover and determine the rights of participants in each channel: for example, in the “chatterboxes” can write all, and news chats – only the admins. The server can organize the full interaction of company employees, players, web developers, etc. Using the “Role customization” tool helps to set access rights for each participant and makes teamwork more efficient and safer.

Capacity of chats – up to 200 people, video conferences – up to 10, the limit for the volume of sent files – 8 MB (for users with a subscription – 100 MB). The duration of group calls – up to 3 days, with the ability to set roles.
Bots make the administration process easier. If, for example, you set up a bot to transfer posts to the news chat, then the administrator won’t have to repost each publication manually.

How to sign up for Discord

There are three ways to sign up for Discord: in the mobile app, in the program installed on your computer, and on the website, using the web version of the messenger.

Let’s look at each of them.

Registration in a mobile application

• In the app store (Google Play in our case) find Discord and click “Install”.
• Wait for the application to finish installing, then click the “Open” button.
• In the welcome window of the application, click the “Register” button.
• Choose how you want to register – by phone or email. Enter the phone number or e-mail and then click the “Next” button.

Note 1. When choosing the phone number, do not forget to specify the region.

Note 2. When registering by phone enter the confirmation code which you get in the sms, by e-mail click on the link in the letter.

• Be protected against robots: enter pictures which correspond to the request and click on “Done”.
• Come up with a username and password and click on “Next”.
• Enter your date of birth and click on “Create account”.

Note: The current date is displayed by default. To set the date of birth, click on the field, in the appeared calendar set the necessary values in the format “date.month.year” and confirm with the Confirm button.

• Next, the application will prompt you to set the profile photo. You can do this immediately, choosing an avatar from the offered or your own images, or skip this step.
• If you want your friends to find you by phone number, check the corresponding item. Click on the “Next” button.
• Give your friends permission to find you or skip the step.
• To start chatting in individual or group chats (indicated by blue arrows), you need to add friends first – click on the plus icon or the “Add friends” button.
• You can add friends in several ways: enter their names one by one and click on “Send friendship request” or use the button “Find your friends” followed by synchronization of contacts and / or the button “Search via Nearby”, having enabled bluetooth in advance.

Registration via the application on your computer

• Download the program from the official site.
• Run the installer and wait for the registration window to appear. Choose how to create an account – phone or email, then fill in the suggested fields (as in the mobile version).
• We looked at registration by phone above, now let’s register by email. Enter e-mail address, username, password, date of birth, click on “Continue”. If you want to receive a newsletter from the service, when you fill out the form, click on the checkbox to confirm your consent to the newsletter.
• Confirm that you are a person and not a robot, click on the white square field.
• Verify – check the appropriate pictures for the task and click on the “Done” button.
• An application window will open asking you to confirm your account.
• Open the email from Discord, which came to the mailbox specified during registration, click on “Confirm email”.
• A window will appear informing you that your email has been successfully verified and inviting you to sign in. Click the “Switch to Discord” button.
• On the left side of the application window, from top to bottom are the action buttons: “Personal Messages,” “Create Server,” and “Explore Public Servers.” You can immediately use the third button, find a suitable chat room and join it. To create your own correspondence, you must first add friends.
• To add a friend, you need to enter his name and send a friend request.

Register in the browser version

• Go to the website and click the “Open Discord in Browser” button
• Registering in the browser-based version is identical to registering in the application on a computer.
• If you have already installed the application on your computer, the system will log in automatically. The window of the browser version differs from the program version only in the presence of an additional button in the left vertical menu – “Download application”.

The variety of ways to interact and the ability to set the roles of participants make it suitable for business and personal communication.
