Instagram is a popular platform that allows you to post photos, videos, and storis in real time. Stories is a promising media format that is available for users to view for 24 hours. After that time, they are placed in an archive where only the user can view them. The time per video is limited to 15 seconds.
You can learn about what tricks, secrets, shooting modes, functions have storis from this article.
What are storis: peculiarities of the format
To begin with, let’s consider what a Story in Instagram is. Story is a special type of content that is designed to share fresh and relevant news and events. Stories “live” for only 24 hours.
With the help of stories, you can publish: polls, announcements of events, contests, drawings. You can supplement stories with different captions and your location.
Stories have their own feed – they are located directly above the feed of posts. Users who have uploaded storis are circled.
To view them, click on the icon with a pink rim. If storis are already viewed, the rim will become gray.
You can add stories to Instagram in three ways:
- Click on your plus icon in the Stories feed on the home page.
- Click the plus sign on the bottom menu.
- Swipe from the left edge to the right on the Home page.
When you tap the plus or swipe, you can upload a photo or video, selecting “Story” if necessary. You can post photos in a variety of formats, but it’s best to use the basic 9:16 aspect ratio, since stories are designed to consume content from your phone and take up the entire screen. Instagram can compress the quality of photos. Recently we made an experiment on the blog – we published the stories from iPhone, Android and SMMplanner and looked at what happens with the picture.
As for the videos, their duration should not exceed 15 seconds. If the video is longer, it will automatically split into parts.

Now you know how to publish a Story on Instagram and it’s time to familiarize yourself with the shooting modes.
