TikTok will further restrict teen accounts. The company announced an update to its community guidelines and default settings for 13-15 year olds. Only friends will be able to view and comment on their videos, their accounts will not appear in the recommendations of others. TikTok positions itself as a responsible company that cares about a young audience and seeks to protect them from unwanted influences. TikTok has gradually added new juvenile safety settings over the past year. Initially, it was made possible for parents to remotely set restrictions on children’s accounts, and then users under 16 were disabled private messages.

This approach is very different from how TikTok’s predecessors handled children’s accounts. In 2019, TikTok even had to pay $ 5.7 million due to the fact that Musical.ly – as TikTok was called before the rebranding – did not receive parental permission for users under 13.

TikTok now has a special application for young audiences – “TikTok for Younger Users” – which only includes moderated content.
