VKontakte is developing a new application – a service for sharing short videos, similar in functionality to TikTok. This was reported to Vedomosti by a source close to Mail.Ru Group.
Reportedly, the social network started developing the service a few months ago, and may release it by the summer of 2019. The exact release date, like the name, is not yet known.

The service will be a separate application integrated with VK.
In the application, you can record short videos and share them with friends and other users. Thus, it will become an analogue of the popular Chinese service TikTok.
The application will differ from the Chinese in the functions of challenges and battles. Users will be able to perform tasks to the music – for example, dance or eat at speed. It will also be possible to perform video tasks for several people at the same time.
Videos will be moderated, which should raise the overall level of content. In addition, Mail.ru Group is negotiating with the copyright holders on the use of music in the new service.
The new application can compete with the Chinese TikTok, which is gaining popularity in Russia. It now bypasses popular social networks such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube in downloads.
