YouTube Shorts, a competitor to TikTok, reaches 1.5 billion monthly viewers

 

Google reveals Shorts’ monthly audience for the first time.

  • More than 1.5 billion people watch videos on YouTube Shorts each month, the WSJ reported citing Google. This data takes into account registered users who watched at least one video on Shorts in April.
  • TikTok’s audience reached 1 billion monthly active users in September 2021, the company reported. According to “independent estimates,” according to the WSJ, in March 2022 the audience of the social network was 1.6 billion people.
  • Another short video service, Reels on Instagram, does not disclose its users. But in April, the company reported that Reels accounts for more than 20% of the time users spend on the social network. According to CNBC, Instagram* had over 2 billion monthly users as of December 2021.
  • YouTube announced the launch of YouTube Shorts in India in September 2020, and in 2021 began testing it in the United States.
